Tamworth Regional Council Youth Centre
The “Youthie” is a drop-in youth centre servicing young people aged 12 - 18 years of age in the Tamworth area. The Youthie is operated by the Tamworth Regional Council and offers a variety of recreational, sports, technology, arts and music based activities. During the school holidays a comprehensive program of activities are organised that young people can become involved with. The “Youthie” is also the meeting place for the Tamworth Youth Advisory, is the hub of annual Youthweek activities in the Tamworth region, and presents regular youth entertainment events in the form of disco’s and live bands. Saturday 30th July: Pool Competition 2pm and Table Tennis.
Friday 5th August 1-10pm: Live bands at the Youthie featuring The Couching 80's Hidden Acronym, more details next week.
Youth Leadership: www.youthleadership.org.au is a hub for youth leadership and volunteering opportunities across Australia. It features opportunities, programs, and organisations that young people can use to make a difference, connect with other like minded young people, or build professional skills.
Heywire: The ABC's Heywire competition wants regional youth on the ABC! HEYWIRE is now open to people aged 16 - 22, to submit a story about life in Australia outside the major cities. Your story can be created in any form of media: text, video, photography or audio. And if you are selected as one of our winners (roughly 40) your story will be featured on ABC Local Radio, ABC Radio National, triple j and abc.net.au. And you'll also score an all-expenses-paid trip to the Heywire Youth Issues Forum in Canberra in February 2012. The Heywire Forum is a chance for the participants to develop outstanding ideas and proposals that will create change in their local communities. Entries close on Monday 19 September 2011 at 5pm. Hope Hill: Term three applications are now open! Hope Hill, located at Nowendoc, NSW, is a place where disadvantaged, hurting young people can come to a farm where they have the opportunity to help work with rescued horses/horses. The program is a 'one on one' program involving one mentor, one horse and one young person. The young person also has the opportunity to participant in a work program. This program aims to help young people reach their full potential and develop positive life skills in a farm environment.
